  • Metre C. M.
  • Words Isaac Watts.
  • 4 stanzas
  • Words only in the original
1

As Jesus died, and rose againVictorious from the dead;So his disciples rise and reignWith their triumphant Head.

2

The time draws nigh, when from the cloudsChrist shall with shouts descend; And the last trumpet's awful voiceThe heavens and earth shall rend.

3

The saints of God, from death set free,With joy shall mount on high; The heavenly hosts, with praises loud,Shall meet them in the sky.

4

Together to their Father's houseWith joyful hearts they go;And dwell forever with the Lord,Beyond the reach of woe.

About this hymn

As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «895» (large) at the top of the right column of p. 299 (level with stanza 2 of hymn 893), with the reference line «399, 794, 354.» in italic figures beside it (sing to the tunes of hymns 399 HARVEY'S CHANT, 794 ZERAH or 354 WOODLAND, all C. M.; no meter is printed — the lines 8.6.8.6 are C. M., like the referenced tunes). Stanzas numbered «1»–«4» without periods (written «1.»–«4.» here, as in the other deliveries of this book); lines 2 and 4 indented. The first word «As» is set with an «s» a little taller and wider than the lowercase of the line (probably capitals and small capitals, as the first words of hymns 894 and 896); written «As». «Isaac Watts.» in italics, right-aligned, after stanza 4. The print sets a thin space before «;» («dead ;», «descend ;», «high ;», «go ;»); it is closed up here. The apostrophes («trumpet's», «Father's») are written straight. Spelling, punctuation and capitals («Head», «Christ», «Lord») are the print's.
