⤢ Full screenOne sweetly solemn thoughtComes to me o'er and o'er;I 'm nearer to my parting hourThan e'er I 've been before.
Nearer my Father's house,Where many mansions be;Nearer the throne where Jesus reigns,Nearer the crystal sea.
Nearer my going home,Laying my burden down,Leaving my cross of heavy grief,Wearing my starry crown.
About this hymn
As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «952» (large) at the head of the right column of p. 320, under the music of hymn 951, with the reference line «688, 946.» in bold italic figures beside it (sing to the tunes of hymns 688 DENNIS and 946 SHAWMUT, both S. M.; no meter is printed — the four lines 6.6.8.6 are S. M.). Stanzas numbered «1»–«3» without periods (written «1.»–«3.» here, as in the other deliveries of this book); lines 2 and 4 indented. The first word «ONE» is set in capitals and small capitals; written «One». «Phœbe Cary.» in italics, right-aligned, after stanza 3 (the ligature read as «œ», see uncertainties.md). The print sets a thin space before «;» («o'er ;», «be ;»); it is closed up here. «I 'm» and «I 've» are printed with a space before the apostrophe; kept, as in the other deliveries of this book. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's.
