Reward of Saints

Thy kingdom come. Thus day by day

  • No. 975
  • Metre L. M.
  • Words Anon.
  • 4 stanzas
  • Words only in the original
1

Thy kingdom come. Thus day by dayWe lift our hands to God and pray; But who has ever duly weighedThe meaning of the words he said?

2

Thy kingdom come. O day of joy,When praise shall every tongue employ; When hate and strife and war shall cease,And man with man shall be at peace.

3

Jesus shall reign on Zion's hill,And all the earth with glory fill; His word shall Paradise restore,And sin and death afflict no more.

4

God's holy will shall then be doneBy all who live beneath the sun;For saints shall then as angels be,All changed to immortality.

About this hymn

As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «975» (large) at the head of the right column of p. 330, beside the music of hymn 973, with the reference line in italic figures beside it (sing to the tunes of hymns 875 SESSIONS, 301 ROCKINGHAM or 923 RETREAT, all L. M.; no meter is printed — the four lines 8.8.8.8 are L. M., like the referenced tunes; the last figure of the line is heavily inked, see uncertainties.md). The first word «THY» is set in a capital and small capitals; it is written «Thy» here. Stanzas numbered «1»–«4» without periods (written «1.»–«4.» here, as in the other deliveries of this book); the lines are not indented. «Anon.» in italics, right-aligned, after stanza 4. The print sets a thin space before «;» and «?» («pray ;», «said ?»); it is closed up here. The apostrophes («Zion's», «God's») are written straight. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's — including «wiih» in stanza 2, line 4, as printed (a damaged or wrong letter for «with»; see uncertainties.md).
