⤢ Full screenGreat God, whose universal swayAll heaven reveres, all worlds obey,Now make the Saviour's glory known;Extend his power, exalt his throne.
Thy scepter well becomes his hands;Angels submit to his commands; His justice shall protect the poor,And pride and rage prevail no more.
With power he vindicates the just,And treads the oppressor in the dust; His righteous government shall lastTill days, and years, and time be past.
About this hymn
As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «976» (large) in the right column of p. 330, below hymn 975, with the reference line «538, 932, 104.» in italic figures beside it (sing to the tunes of hymns 538 HEBRON, 932 FEDERAL STREET or 104 RUSSIA, all L. M.; no meter is printed — the four lines 8.8.8.8 are L. M., like the referenced tunes). The first word «GREAT» is set in a capital and small capitals; it is written «Great» here. Stanzas numbered «1»–«3» without periods (written «1.»–«3.» here, as in the other deliveries of this book); the lines are not indented. «Anon.» in italics, right-aligned, after stanza 3. The print sets a thin space before «;» («known ;», «hands ;»); it is closed up here. The apostrophe of «Saviour's» is written straight. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's («Saviour», «scepter»).
