Triumphant Zion, lift thy head

  • No. 1012
  • Metre L. M.
  • Words Philip Doddridge.
  • 3 stanzas
  • Words only in the original
1

Triumphant Zion, lift thy headFrom dust, from darkness, and the dead!Though humbled long, awake at length,And gird thee with thy Saviour's strength.

2

Put all thy beauteous garments on,And let thy excellence be known;Decked in the robes of righteousness,Thy glories shall the world confess.

3

God, from on high, has heard thy prayer,His hand thy ruin shall repair,Nor will thy watchful Monarch ceaseTo guard thee in eternal peace.

About this hymn

As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «1012» (large) at the head of the right column of p. 347, beside stanzas 2–4 of hymn 1011, with the reference line «47, 973, 336.» in italic figures beside it (sing to the tunes of hymns 47 AMES, 973 ANVERN or 336 BROCKHAM, all L. M.; no meter is printed — the four lines 8.8.8.8 are L. M., like the referenced tunes). Stanzas numbered «1»–«3» without periods (written «1.»–«3.» here, as in the other deliveries of this book); the lines of each stanza are set flush. The first word «TRIUMPHANT» is set in a capital and small capitals; written «Triumphant». «Philip Doddridge.» in italics, right-aligned, at the foot of the column. The print sets a thin space before «!» and «;» («dead !», «known ;»); it is closed up here. The apostrophe of «Saviour's» is written straight. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's («Saviour's», «Monarch»).
