1

See Israel's gentle Shepherd stand,With all-engaging charms!Hark! how he calls the tender lambs,And folds them in his arms!

2

"Permit them to approach," he cries,"Nor scorn their humble name; For 't was to bless such souls as theseThe Lord of angels came."

3

We bring them, Lord, with thankful hands,And yield them up to thee;Joyful that we ourselves are thine,—Thine let our offspring be.

4

Ye little flock! with pleasure hear,—Ye children! seek his face; And fly, with transport, to receiveThe blessings of his grace.

About this hymn

As printed As printed: running head «THE CHURCH—BAPTISM.»; hymn number «1075» (large), tune name «PEORIA. C. M.» centred over the music (condensed capitals), «UNKNOWN.» at the right (capitals and small capitals). Stanza 1 is interlinear, between the staves, one line per system, with «1.» before «See» (see `lyrics_syllables.txt`). Under the staves the print has «al. - en - gag - ing»: the second «l» of «all» is reduced to a small stub at the baseline (damaged type), read «all» — see `uncertainties.md`; «all-engaging» keeps the hyphen of the compound. Stanzas 2–4 are printed as text in the left column below the music, under the reference line «1071, 120, 354.» in italics (= may also be sung to the tunes of hymns 1071, 120 or 354). «Philip Doddridge.» in italics after stanza 4. The print sets a thin space before «!» and «;» («charms !», «Hark !», «arms !», «name ;», «thee ;», «flock !», «children !», «face ;»); it is closed up here. «'t was» (stanza 2) is printed with a space between «'t» and «was» and is written so, as «'t is» in HT_0396. The printer's curly quotes and apostrophes are written straight. The stanza numbers of the text column are printed without a period («2» … «4»); they are written «2.» … here, like the interlinear «1.», as in the other deliveries of this book. Lines 2 and 4 of each stanza are indented in the print. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's.
