Saviour, Saviour, hear my humble cry; While on others thou art calling,Do not pass me by.
Let me at the throne of mercyFind a sweet relief;Kneeling there in deep contrition,Help my unbelief.
Trusting only in thy merit,Would I seek thy face;Heal my wounded, broken spirit,Save me by thy grace.
Thou the Spring of all my comfort,More than life to me;Whom have I on earth beside thee!Whom in heav'n but thee?
About this hymn
As printed As printed: the page (p. 491) opens with the end of hymn 1274 («OUT OF THE ARK.—Concluded.», two systems); below it the hymn number «1275» (large, left) and the title «PASS ME NOT.» centred (condensed capitals with taller initials P, M, N); under it the epigraph in one line, «"Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."—Acts 2 : 21.» (old-style figures); «FANNY J. CROSBY.» at the left (words) and «W. H. DOANE.» at the right (music), in capitals and small capitals. No meter, no tune name other than the title and no reference line are printed. The four stanzas are interlinear, numbered «1.»–«4.», between the staves of system 1 and under the first three bars of system 2; «CHORUS.» (bold capitals) stands over the treble at the heavy bar of system 2, and the chorus words are printed once — on the second lyric line of system 2 (after «un - be - lief.» of stanza 2) and alone under system 3; the chorus is sung after every stanza. Under the music, centred: «From "Songs of Devotion," by per. Biglow & Main.». Each stanza is given here in its four verse lines (the capitals of the print mark them) and the chorus in three: its first line, «Sav - iour, Sav - iour, hear my hum - ble cry;», is printed with a small «hear» and is one line. The third verse line of every stanza and the first line of the chorus are broken by the change of system («…thou art / call - ing,», «…deep con- / tri - tion,», «…broken / spir - it,», «…on earth be- / side thee!», «…hum - ble / cry;»); each is one line here. The words divided under the notes are joined here («gen - tle», «oth - ers», «call - ing», «mer - cy», «re - lief», «con- / tri - tion», «un - be - lief», «Trust-ing», «on - ly», «mer - it», «spir - it», «be- / side», «Sav - iour», «hum - ble» → «gentle», «others», …); the divisions are in `lyrics_syllables.txt`. The print sets a thin space before «;», «!», «?» and «:» («cry ;», «re - lief ;», «face ;», «me ;», «thee !», «thee ?», «2 : 21»); it is closed up here; curly quotes and apostrophes are written straight («heav'n»). Several words are set with a hair space or none between them by the justification («the throne», «Would I», «deep con-», «thy grace.», «Whom in heav'n but»); they are separate words. Spelling («Saviour», «heav'n»), punctuation and capitals («Spring»; lower-case «thou», «thy», «thee» for Christ) are the print's.
