Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light, a light unto my path! How sweet are thy words unto my taste—yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!Give me understanding, and I shall keep thy law, for therein do I delight, O Lord, my God. Amen.

About this hymn

As printed As printed on p. 525 (PDF 526), under the end of hymn 1314: hymn number «1315» (large, left) and the title «"THY WORD IS A LAMP UNTO MY FEET."» centred (condensed capitals and small capitals, between quotation marks); no Scripture reference, no names of author or composer, no copyright line; the folio «525» at the foot. The words (Psalm 119:105, 103, 34–35) are an anthem set interlinear in three systems: system 1 carries two lines in a brace, without stanza numbers — «Thy word is a lamp un-to my feet, and a light, a light un-» and «How sweet are thy words un-to my taste— yea, sweeter than hon-ey»; system 2 carries «to my path!» over «to my (omit.)» («omit.» in italics), a closing brace, then on the middle level «mouth! Give me un-der-stand-ing, and I shall keep thy»; system 3 has the single line «law, for there-in do I de-light, O Lord, my God. A-men.». Line 1 is sung with the first ending, line 2 after the repeat with the second ending («mouth!»), and the rest once; «(omit.)» is a direction (skip the first ending), not part of the text. Below, each sung sentence is one line, in the order sung. The dash of «taste— yea,» stands where the music spreads the syllables; it is closed up here («taste—yea,»). «sweeter» is printed unbroken under two notes. The print sets a thin space before «!»; it is closed up here; quotation marks are written straight. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's.
