⤢ Full screenI am waiting for Jesus to welcome me home,To the place he has gone to prepare,To the mansion of light and the robe, pure and white,To the harp and the crown for me there.
Waiting, waiting,I am waiting, dear Jesus, for thee;Ever longing,All the beauties of heaven to see.
How I long to be roaming the blest fields of light,With the dear, loving children of God,And to sing the sweet song as we're marching along,Of redemption thro' Jesus' blood!
Roll along, then, sweet moments, and bear me awayTo my beautiful home in the sky,To the land of the blest, where I sweetly shall restIn the palace of Jesus on high.
About this hymn
As printed As printed: hymn number «1341» (large, left), title «WAITING FOR THEE.» centred (condensed capitals with larger «W» and «T»); under it, centred, the epigraph «"That ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ."—1 Cor. 1 : 7.» (old-style figures; a small raised speck stands in the space between «Jesus» and «Christ» — not a letter, see `uncertainties.md`); on the next line «J. G.» at the left (words) and «JOSEPH GARRISON.» at the right (music, capitals and small capitals). No meter, no tune name other than the title, no reference line, no running head. All three stanzas are interlinear, numbered «1.»–«3.», between the staves of systems 1–3; each printed line of words carries parts of two verse lines; they are given here one verse line per line (joined across the system breaks: «To the place he has / gone to prepare,», «With the dear, loving / children of God,», «To my beautiful / home in the sky,»). «CHORUS.» (bold capitals) stands over the last bar of system 3. The chorus words are printed once, in two lines where the voices divide: the upper line («Wait - - ing, / wait - - ing,» and «Ev - - er long - ing,», the hyphens spread under the soprano's held notes) is the soprano's, sung with the tenor; the lower line («Wait-ing, dear Je-sus, yes, / wait-ing for thee,» and «Ev-er I'm longing, dear Jesus, I'm longing») is the alto's, sung with the bass; after «thee,» and after the second «longing» one line serves all voices («I am wait-ing, dear Je-sus, for thee;», «All the beauties of heav-en to see.»). The chorus is given here as the soprano sings it; the lower line follows it. Words divided under the notes are joined here («wait-ing», «Je-sus», «pre-pare», «man-sion», «roam-ing», «lov-ing», «chil-dren», «a-long», «re-demp-tion», «beau-ti-ful», «sweet-ly», «pal-ace», «heav-en», «a-way»); the divisions are in `lyrics_syllables.txt`. The print sets a thin space before «;» («gift ;», «thee ;», «1 : 7»); it is closed up here; quotes and apostrophes are written straight («thro'», «Jesus'», «we're», «I'm»). Under the music, centred: «By permission David C. Cook.» and the page number «551». Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's («Roll along, then,», «thro'», «blood!»; capital «Waiting,» at the start of the chorus, lower-case «waiting,» in its second bar).
