1

Hail, thou bright and sacred morn,
Risen with gladness in thy beams!
Light, which not of earth is born,
From thy dawn in glory streams;
Airs of heaven are breathed around,
And each place is holy ground.

2

Great Creator! who this day
From thy perfect work didst rest,
By the souls that own thy sway
Hallowed be its hours and blest,
Cares of earth aside be thrown,
This day given to God alone.

About this hymn

As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «248» (large), then in italics and brackets «[Tune, Sabbath, No. 244.]» (sing to the tune SABBATH, hymn 244), then «7s. 6l.» in bold at the right (= sevens, six lines). Two numbered stanzas in the right column of p. 82 below hymn 247, «Julia A. Elliot.» in italics at the end. The first word «HAIL» is set in capitals and small capitals. The print sets a thin space before «!» and «;» («beams !», «streams ;», «Creator !»); it is closed up here. Lines 2 and 4 of each stanza are indented; lines 5 and 6 stand at the margin of lines 1 and 3, as printed. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's.
