The chosen three, on mountain hight

  • No. 310
  • Words David H. Ela.
  • 4 stanzas
  • Words only in the original
1

The chosen three, on mountain hight,
While Jesus bowed in prayer,
Beheld his vesture glow with light,
His face shine wondrous fair.

2

And lo! with the transfigured Lord,
Leader and seer they saw;
With Carmel's hoary prophet stood
The giver of the law.

3

From the low-bending cloud above,
Whence radiant brightness shone,
Spake out the Father's voice of love,
"Hear my beloved Son!"

4

Lord, lead us to the mountain hight;
To prayer's transfiguring glow;
And clothe us with the Spirit's might,
For grander work below.

About this hymn

As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «310» (large) with the reference line «395, 438, 446.» in italics beside it (sing to the tune of hymn 395, 438 or 446); the hymn stands at the top of the right column of p. 102, below the music of hymn 308, and ends there with «David H. Ela.» in italics. The first word «THE» is set in capitals and small capitals. The print sets a thin space before «!», «;» and the closing quotation mark («lo !», «saw ;», «Son ! "»); it is closed up here. The printer's curly apostrophes and quotation marks are written straight («Carmel's», «Father's», «"Hear my beloved Son!"»). Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's («hight» twice, «Spake»). Lines 2 and 4 of each stanza are indented in the print. No meter is printed (the text is C. M., 8.6.8.6).
