⤢ Full screenThe last call of mercy now lingers for thee;O sinner, receive it; to Jesus now flee!He often has called thee—but thou hast refused; His offered salvation and love are abused.
O slight not the warning now offered at last,Till summer is ended and harvest is passed;Till mercy, long slighted, has left thy heart's door,And pardon, sweet pardon, is offered no more.
While Jesus is calling, O turn not away; For swiftly approacheth the dread judgment day:The Spirit invites you, O why will you roam?Come now to life's waters, ye thirsty ones, come.
The last call of mercy now lingers for thee;O, break the strong fetters of sin, and be free! The Bride is now calling; ye wanderers, come;Accept of salvation, in heaven there 's room.
About this hymn
As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «424» (large) at the head of the right column of p. 137 (beside stanzas 2–5 of hymn 423), then in italics and brackets «[Tune, I Love Thee, No. 511.]» (sing to the tune I LOVE THEE, hymn 511), then «11s.» in bold at the right (= elevens: four lines of 11 syllables). The opening mark is a square bracket «[» and the closing mark a square bracket «]» after the period of «511.». The first figure of «511» has the flat top bar of this italic face's «5» (the page OCR read «611»; hymn 611 is MENDEBRAS, 7s & 6s. D., while 511 is I LOVE THEE in the book's inventory). The first word «THE» is set in capitals and small capitals. Each long verse is broken in two by the column width and the turn-overs («refused;», «last,», «passed;», «heart's door,», «more.», «ment day:», «roam?», «come.», «free!», «come;», «room.») are set on their own indented lines; they are joined here, one verse per line («judg-»/«ment day:» of stanza 3 joined as «judgment day:»). The stanza numbers are printed without a period («1 THE»); they are written «1.» … here, as in the other deliveries of this book. The print sets a thin space before «;», «!», «:» and «?» («thee ;», «it ;», «flee !», «refused ;», «passed ;», «away ;», «day :», «roam ?», «free !», «come ;»); it is closed up here. «there 's» (stanza 4) is printed with a space before the apostrophe and is kept so (as in HT_0083, HT_0196 and HT_0377); the printer's curly apostrophes are written straight («heart's», «life's»). Dashes as printed («thee—but»). «Anon.» in italics at the foot of the column. Spelling («approacheth»), punctuation and capitals are the print's.
