Death and Resurrection

Jesus made known the path of light

  • No. 934
  • Metre C. M.
  • Words Anon.
  • 3 stanzas
  • Words only in the original
1

Jesus made known the path of light,Which righteous men shall tread; He showed the way, the truth, the life,In rising from the dead.

2

Then let these fleshly yearnings cease,Let joy our hearts expand;Death is to them a peaceful sleepWho keep their Lord's command.

3

This sleeping dust ere long shall rise,And these dead bones awake,When Christ in glory rends the skies,And all the kingdoms shake.

About this hymn

As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «934» (large) in the left column of p. 314, below hymn 933 (NAOMI), with the reference line «647, 937.» in italic figures beside it (sing to the tunes of hymns 647 SILOAM or 937 CHINA, both C. M.; no meter is printed — the lines 8.6.8.6 are C. M.). Stanzas numbered «1»–«3» without periods (written «1.»–«3.» here, as in the other deliveries of this book); lines 2 and 4 indented. The first word «JESUS» is set in a capital and small capitals; written «Jesus». Worn type: the «n» of «In» (stanza 1, line 4) and the «e» of «Death» (stanza 2, line 3) are broken in the print but legible. «Anon.» in italics, right-aligned, after stanza 3. The print sets a thin space before «;» («tread ;», «expand ;»); it is closed up here. The apostrophe of «Lord's» is written straight. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's.
