⤢ Full screenFather of mercies, bow thine ear,Attentive to our earnest prayer:We plead for those who plead for thee;Successful pleaders may they be.
O clothe their words with power divine,And let those words be ever thine; To them thy sacred truth reveal,Suppress their fear, inflame their zeal.
Teach them to sow the precious seed;Teach them thy chosen flock to feed;Teach them the souls of men to gain;Nor let them labor, Lord, in vain.
Let thronging multitudes aroundHear from their lips the joyful sound,In humble strains thy grace implore,And feel thy Spirit's living power.
About this hymn
As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «1033» (large) in the left column of p. 354, below the stanzas of hymn 1032 and «Isaac Watts.», with the reference line «108, 538, 19.» in italic figures beside it (sing to the tunes of hymns 108 MIGDOL, 538 HEBRON or 19 DUKE STREET, all L. M.; no meter is printed — the lines 8.8.8.8 are L. M.). Stanzas numbered «1»–«4» without periods (written «1.»–«4.» here, as in the other deliveries of this book); all four lines of each stanza stand at the same margin. The first word «FATHER» is set in a capital and small capitals; written «Father». The print sets a thin space before «:» and «;» («prayer :», «thee ;», «thine ;», «seed ;», «feed ;», «gain ;»); it is closed up here. The apostrophe of «Spirit's» is written straight. «Benjamin Beddome.» in italics, right-aligned, after stanza 4. Spelling («labor»), punctuation and capitals are the print's.
